Arctic Spas 2020 Hot Tubs
Invigorating an Established Lineage
Arctic Spas has a reputation for making some of the best built cold climate spas in the world, a reputation that has been well earned over decades of manufacturing premium quality products. But in 2018 Arctic felt their Hot Tub lineup had started to show its age and needed a refresh to appeal to contemporary homeowners.
Design Intent
Onetwosix Design was approached by Arctic Spas to infuse their lineup with an aesthetic of rugged sophistication mixed with quality and beauty—while also maintaining their reputation for quality, durability, serviceability, and innovative engineering. Above all, Arctic Spas wanted their new line of spas to stand out from competitors and make a lasting first impression with potential customers.
Approach
Starting with a 3D scan, we worked with Arctic to improve the ergonomics of their Hot Tub line while integrating and re-designing their many features—including control knobs, jets, waterfall features, filters, and headrests. The process involved conceptual sketching, advanced 3D surface modelling, scale mock-ups of parts and components, and even milling a full-sized foam prototype of a seat for user testing and feedback.
Final Product
The final line of hot tubs maintains a consistent lineage of Arctic Spas while taking the aesthetics and comfort of their world class spas beyond the reach of their competitors. Through the consistency of the components, emphasis on quality, focus on the comfort of the end user, and a highly refined, flowing interior aesthetic, the design for the 2020 Arctic Spas lineup does more than make a good first impression. Customers agreed as well. This re-design by Onetwosix proved to be a great success, with hot tub sales for Arctic Spas in 2020.
